Location: located between 4305' - 4515' north latitude and 12418' - 12702' east longitude, in the center of the northeast plain, middle part of Songliao Plain

Introduction of Changchun

Changchun has suffered a lot of hardships, especially in modern times. In 1931 Japan entered and occupied entire northeast part of China, which can be considered the prelude of Sino-Japan War. Obviously Changchun became a colony of Japan. On March 1, 1932, Puyi, the last emperor of China, set up Manchukuo in Changchun supported by Japan, taking Changchun as the capital. From then on brutal rule of Japanese upon Chinese people had begun. After a long time of struggle and resistance, finally Changchun broke off the ruthless rule, stepping into a bright and splendid future.


Compared with other historical cities in China like Xian, Changchun is a young city with only 200 years' history; however the present Changchun is charming city with several fine names which can give you a general impression of this big city.

 

City of Automobiles: Changchun is the cradle of Chinese automobile industry, a famous auto city in China. On July 13, 1956, a truck branded with Jiefang was produced, which opened a new age for Chinese auto industry. This truck was the first automobile entirely made by Chinese. Famous and Changchun International Automobile Fair makes Changchun a real City of Automobiles.

 

City of Films: Changchun Film Studio was the first one after the found of People's Republic of China. It is praised as the cradle of Chinese film industry. For dozens of years, a great many excellent domestic films and dubbed films were produced here which gained a good fame for Changchun Film Studio both at home and abroad. As a calling card of Changchun, ceremonious Changchun Film Festival has enhanced its honor City of Film. Film is an inter-medium. Famous Attractions in Changchun

1. Jingyuetan: Jingyue is 12 kilometers away from the southeast of Changchun. It is surrounded by mountains and trees. It is famous for its reservoirs. In winter it is attractive due to white snow and in summer to the coolness. It is a collection of lakes, trees, mountains and fields. The water is as clear as a mirror. The whole scenic spot is divided into scenery of water in the west, that of mountains in the north, that of trees in the south and that of fields in the east.

 

2. Bonuo Temple: Changchun Bonuo Temple is located in the east of Renmin Square, covers 7,200 kilometers. Today, Bonuo Temple in Changchun covers 14,000 kilometers. The designs of the bell tower in the east and the drum tower in the west are unique, and highly skilled. In case of important occasions, bells and drums will resound to the skies.

 

3. Jilin Provincial Museum: Built on the palace site of the late emperor of the Qing Dynasty, Jilin Provincial Museum in Changchun exhibits historic and cultural relics from the Paleolithic and Neolithic Ages through the Yuan Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.

 

4. Museum of Imperial Palace of Manchu State: Although the history became the history, the Museum of Imperial Palace of Manchu State in Changchun still reminds us of the darkness at that period. It is a series of buildings that are totally different from modern styles. The palace bears witness to the Japanese invasion of Dongbei (northeast part of China).

 

5. Nong'an Liao Tower: Nong'an Liao Tower (also known as the Buddha Tower) is in Nong'an County, about 60 kilometers (about 37.3 miles) from Changchun City. In view of its history spanning more than a thousand years, this ancient tower has become a must for those come to visit Changchun.

Nightlife in Changchun is not as colorful and romantic as that of other big cities in China, such as Shanghai or Beijing. Er'ren Zhuan's sung form takes the Dongbei folk songs as its base together with Hebei Bangzi, Dongbei Dagu and other melodies and many folk jests. It is no exaggeration to say that Changchun Er'ren Zhuan can best present you with a show of the real beauty of Dongbei Ren (people living in northeast part of China).

Traditional dishes of Changchun

1. Changbai Zhen Yan (Changbai Banquet with Rare Products): There are in total six dishes that make up Changbai Zhen Yan. All the ingredients are both natural and rare products of Changbai Mountain including ginseng, deer antler, bear's paw and snow toad and the adjective 'sumptuous' well describes the banquet. It will not only meet your eating desires but is also very good for your health.

 

2. Ginseng and Chicken Cooked with Maotai Wine: One distinctive characteristic of this dish is that it uses Maotai, famed Chinese liquor as one of its main ingredients. Just as its name implies, this dish mixes chicken, ginseng and Maotai together to present you a delicacy. The whole dish will appeal to you with eye catching color, beautiful shape and alluring aroma.

 

3. Braised Deer's Tail: Deer's tail is always a rare and precious cook meat. Braised Deer's Tail is honored as 'uniqueness of dishes' due to its flamboyant color and intoxicating aftertaste.

 

Shopping in Changchun

Changchun is very convenient for shopping: Chongqing Lu, Guangfu Market, Renmin Plaza and so on are all crowded business area. Some of stores in Changchun sell specialty local products of Jilin Province and some handcrafts made by local peasants, such as woodcarvings, grass intertextures, bark pictures, feather pictures, and so on and all make unique gifts for friends and relatives. Changchun Travel Guide

1. City Bus: The central area of Changchun is not very spacious, but city bus routes here amount to more than 100 and can take you to almost every part of the City. Generally speaking the ticket fee is 1 Yuan in driver only buses; in those busses with conductors, the ticket fee is based on the numbers of stops you travel. Please do remember to take small change when you use buses!

 

2. Taxi: The taxis of Changchun include the models Hongqi, Audi, Jetta, etc. with Jetta in the main role with the usual price for a taxi being RMB 5 for the first 2.5 kilometers (about 1.9 miles) and an additional charge of RMB2 for every subsequent kilometer. Therefore if you are traveling in a small group, it is more cost effective to take a taxi in Changchun.

 

3. Tram: The No.54 tram makes Changchun one of the few cities still running trams within China. The No.54 tram has itself become a highlight of Changchun tourism because its nostalgic flavor reminds people of times past. Don't miss this tram whenever you come to visit Changchun.


4. Light rail: Changchun light rail project (first section) has been in use since October, 2002 and begins at Changchun railway station, then heading along the Jingha railway (Beijing to Harbin railway) and stops at Weixing Plaza. Changchun light rail project, which is under construction, will extend the line to Jingyuetan National Forest Park.
