Introduction of Changsha City


Changsha is the capital city of Hunan Province. What earns the city its reputation among tourists are two things. One is a great man in China's recent history, Chairman Mao Zedong and the other is Yuelu Academy, a time-honored academic school perched on the scenic Yuelu Mountain.


Changsha people are also renowned for their acting and have created various traditional folk art performances of their own including the local operas, storytelling, drum opera, acrobatics and other dramatic styles. Famous Attraction in Changsha

1. Mawangdui Han Tombs: Located in the eastern suburb of Changsha City, the world famous Mawangdui Han Tombs is one of the most fascinating attractions in Hunan Province. It is no exaggeration to say that the Mawangdui Han Tombs is an open book to the glorious West Han Dynasty. More than 3,000 relics have been unearthed from the three tombs, such as silk products, silk books, silk paintings, lacquer works, potteries, bamboo slips used for writing, weapons, herbs, and so on.

2. Mt. Yuelu: Mt. Yuelu is noted for its picturesque scenery. Besides the natural scenery, Yuelu Mountain abounds with cultural landscape as well. It's a highly reputable scenic area in Hunan Province, an area that enables you to have a much clearer understanding of Changsha City once you have paid a visit to Mt. Yuelu.


3. Hunan Provincial Museum: It has gathered together most curios unearthed in Hunan Province, unfolding the cultural development of Hunan Province throughout thousands of years. This museum has a collection of more than 110,000 objects, over 763 of which are top grade cultural relics. Most of these objects were discovered by archaeological excavation.


Nightlife in Changsha

The people of Changsha are renowned for their performing arts and they have created various traditional folk performances of their own, including Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, Drum Opera, Clam Dance, Xiang Opera (i.e. Hunan Opera), acrobatics and other dramatic presentations. At Spring Festival, these folk performances appear in the streets and lanes. Where the performers reach is where the atmosphere is the most alive.


1. Traditional folk art in Changsha was highly fashionable during a period of the city's history and many of today's theatres and opera halls in Changsha date from that time. 1. Hunan Cuisine: also known as ' Xiang' Cuisine is renowned as one of the Eight Cuisines of China. It is features a fine and delicate appearance together with a hot and spicy flavor. Each Hunan Changsha dish tells its own story.

2. Three-Boxed Birds (San Ceng Tao Ji): a sparrow, a pigeon and a black-bone hen as ingredients for a Chinese herbal medicine soup. first put the small sparrow into the pigeon and then put the pigeon into the black-bone hen, hence the name three-boxed birds.


3. Crisp Sesame Duck (Maren Xiangsu Ji): a duck is fried in peanut oil until its skin turns golden. Spicy seasonings and sesame oil are then added to the fried duck.


Shopping in Changsha

Shopping Area 1: Wuyi Square Shopping Circle – Central


The most important shopping area in downtown is the Wuyi Square Shopping Circle which is located at the intersection of Wuyi Lu and Huangxing Lu. All sorts of department stores, shopping malls and supermarkets, hotels, restaurants on the visitors' recommended list surround the bustling Wuyi Square.


Shopping Area 2: Dongtang Shopping Area–South


In the southern part of the city near Furong Nanlu, there is another shopping circle near Dongtang with a landmark shopping center called Golden Family World Classic. Clothes shopping buildings, friendship stores, Gome Electronic Appliances and other supermarkets dot with area.

1. Hunan Provincial Museum: take bus 112, 113, 131, 136, 146, 150, 302, 303, 704, 901 and get off at Hunan Provincial Museum.

2. Mt. Yuelu: Take bus no.132, 202, 305, Lishan Special Line or Tourism Bus Line 1 and get off at Yuelu Mountain North or Yuelu Mountain South.

Late January and early February often mark the beginning of the Chinese Spring Festival. Many authentic Chinese activities are held during the festival. In Changsha, people gather at Juzi Island to celebrate the New Year and pop fireworks to, at the same time, honor the great leader President Mao.


Spring often comes in March, and marks the high time for everything to wake up. The flowers begin to blossom everywhere and the grass starts to grow. Many tourists plan spring outings in May, and this is one of the best periods of the year to visit Changsha and its famous scenic spot, Mount Yuelu.
