Attractions in Jinan

 

1. Thousand Buddha Mountain: The Thousand Buddha Mountain is one of the key tourist attractions in Jinan China. In the early Sui Dynasty a great number of Buddhas were chiseled on the rocks of the mountain and the Thousand-Buddha Temple was constructed and became famous soon, hence named the mountain the same with that of the temple.


2. Daming Lake: The Daming Lake, covering an area of 46 hectares, is a largest natural lake located in the north of Jinan City. The lake itself covers an area of 460,000 square metres with an average depth of 3 meters. The lake is the convergence of a number of springs in the city, including the Pearl Spring, the Lotus Spring, and Wangfu Pool, etc.

 

3. Baotu Spring: The Baotu Spring is the most renowned cultural spring among the more than 70 named artesian springs in the downtown Jinan China. Emperor Qian Long even declared the Baotu Spring with the honorary title "Number One Spring under the Heaven". It has been a top tourist attraction since long and numerous people travel to Baotu Spring every year.


4. Weifang World Kite Museum: Weifang World Kite Museum, located in Weifang Kuiwen 66 Chief Street, completed in April 1989, is China's first large-scale kite museum, is currently building the world's largest kite museum professionals.

Jinan Cuisine
Jinan cuisine is famous for its scrumptious, aromatic, fresh and pure dishes. The methods of cooking employed in the preparation of these local foods include deep-frying, grilling, frying and stir-frying but the food is non-greasy. Nutritious soup is an important feature of Jinan cuisine while shallot and garlic are widely used to create delicious flavors. Tang Cu Li Yu (Sweet and Sour Carp), Jiu Zhuan Da Chang (Fried Pork Chitterlings) and Jinan Roast Duck are very popular local delicacies.


Snacks
Quancheng Steamed Stuffed Bun: This is the famous stuffed bun loved by many people. Tourists are recommended to try it when in Jinan.

 

You Xuan: This is another local snack and is a kind of fried cake. The finished You Xuan is golden and crisp on the outside with a soft inside; it is particularly delicious when eaten with wonton.


Fried Dumpling: Fried Dumpling is a variety of fried and baked stuffing snack. The stuffing often is comprised of pork and vegetables.

 

Spring Roll: Jinan people continue the custom of making Spring Rolls in the spring. Restaurants also sell spring rolls and the popular version has a variety of wild vegetable as it main filling.


Five-Stuffing Steamed Bun: As its name implies this steamed bun has a variety of fillings. They are peanut meat, sesame meat, walnut meat, almond and melon seed meat. The other ingredients are jujube meat cube and sugar, which make the bun more flavorsome.

Quancheng Lu
Quancheng Lu is a street with a long history, so you can be sure to find traditional Chinese restaurants here. Jinan Embroidery
Jinan embroidery is namely Lu Xiu (Shandong Embroidery, Lu is short for Shandong Province.) Jinan's embroidery is famous for the Hair Embroidery and Silk Embroidery. The Hair Embroidery is made with human hair. Chinese 'ink wash' painting made this way is really beautiful and true-to-life.


Mian Su
Mian Su (Flour Sculpture), namely the Dough Doll, is made of glutinous rice flour and dyes and antiseptics of different colors. Only by using fingers and simple tools such as, knives, combs, and bamboo needles, the lifelike sculptures are shaped.

 

Muyu Shi
Muyu Shi (Wooden-Fish Stone), the Wood-Veins Stone, is the russet stone that can be made into crafts. The tea sets made of it can delay the corruption of tea and can separate out various microelements and minerals helpful to human body.


Black Pottery
Black Pottery, an ancient pottery species popular 4000 years ago, is found in Longshan Town of Jinan, and is part of Longshan Culture. It has historic value for it is an important symbol to distinguish the earlier and the latter periods of the Neolithic Age.

By Air
Covering an area of 230,000 square meters (about 56.8 acres), Jinan International Airport is one of China's finest airports. Notably, it is also the largest passenger airport in Shandong Province. Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport is about 33 kilometers outside of Jinan China. It connects to both the Jiqing (Jinan –Qingdao) and Jingfu (Jingfu – Fuzhou) highways, providing very convenient airport transportation.


By Train
There are two railway stations in Jinan, Jinan Railway Station and East Railway Station.

 

Jinan Railway Station is the largest in Shandong Province. Railway lines Beijing-Shanghai and Qingdao-Jinan pass and stop at Jinan City. It also connects Jinan with other large cities, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Lianyungang, Xian, Urumqi and Hangzhou, etc.


East Railway Station is the stopover from trains operating between Qingdao-Dandong, Qingdao-Taiyuan and Beijing-Weihai. There is a direct train (Train 2523) starting from East Railway Station to Luoyang. The journey takes about 12 hours.

 

By Long-Distance Bus
The express ways, Beijing-Shanghai, Jinan-Qingdao, Jinan-Liaocheng and four national highways, Beijing-Fuzhou, Binzhou-Zhengzhou, Qingdao-Shijiazhuang and Rongcheng-Lanzhou all pass by Jinan.


There are two major coach stations in Jinan China. One is Jinan Coach Terminal, No.131, Jiluo Lu, and the other is the East Coach Station, on Jiefang Lu.

 

By City-bus
There are about 200 bus routes in Jinan. The bus fare is CNY1. The bus numbers starting with a K charge CNY2, such as K51, etc. if you have an IC card, and then you can enjoy a 10% discount. The above mentioned tour buses don't departure until the number of passengers reaches ten. And they will return at 15:30 on the same day.


By Taxi
You can find taxis in the airport, railway station, outside the hotels and restaurants very easily. At present, there are two main kinds of taxis in Jinan: one kind is, cars of 1,600 cc displacement, and the other kind is, cars of 1,800 cc displacement. The former is CNY7 for the first three kilometers (1.86 miles) and then, CNY1.5 for each additional kilometer (0.62 mile); the latter is CNY9 for the first three kilometers. The waiting time charge is free, if less than five minutes.
