Attractions of Shenyang

 

1. Shenyang Imperial Palace: located at No. 171, Shenyang Road, Shenhe District in Shenyang City, is the only existing royal palace in China outside of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It was listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2004 as an extension of the Forbidden City and is now the most popular and renowned tourist attraction in Shenyang.
 

2. Zhaoling Tomb: Zhaoling Tomb is located in Beiling Park, the largest park in Shenyang. It is the mausoleum of Huang Taiji (Emperor Taizong) of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and his queen Bo'erjijite. As the tomb lies to the north of Shenyang City, it is usually called Beiling (North Tomb).

 

3. Fuling Tomb: Located in the eastern suburb of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, it is the mausoleum of Nurhachi (1559-1626), the founder of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and his empress. Fuling Tomb is a well-preserved tomb complex of the Qing Dynasty. It is now included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.

 

4. Xinle Remains: Xinle Remains is the site of a 7,200-year-old aboriginal society in which authority was held by women. Of all the relics unearthed at the site, a woodcarving of a bird is the most famous and precious, because it is the oldest such relic found not only in Shenyang but in the entire world.

As the largest city in the northeast part of China, Shenyang has fairly good recreational facilities. Besides KTVs, pubs and other entertainment centers, there are slap-up clubs available.

 

Shenyang Shengjing International Golf Club (No.201, Dongling Lu, Dongling Dstrict) is the only forest golf course in accord with the international level in Shenyang City. Main shopping centers in Shenyang are to be found in Taiyuan Jie and Zhong Jie. Taiyuan Jie is Shenyang's busiest street, a combination of business, dining and entertainment centers. Zhong Jie is 396 years old, the oldest business area in Shenyang and the longest pedestrian street anywhere in China. Pubs, restaurants and stores line both sides of this thriving street.
Wu'ai Costume Market is located in Shenhe District. It is one of the most well-known wholesale clothing markets in Shenyang.

1. By City-bus: There are more than 3,000 city buses running on over 140 lines in Shenyang. Buses can reach almost every place in Shenhe District, Huanggu District, Tiexi District, Heping District and Dadong District. The ticket fare is CNY1 for big city buses without conductors; the ticket fare for mini-buses with conductors depends on the number of stops you have to take.

 

2. By Subway: The subway Line 1 of Shenyang has been put into use since September 27th, 2010, by which passengers could shuttle from the west Shenyang City to the east part quickly.

 

3. By Taxi: Shenyang is favored with a very good public transportation system. According to the statistics, there are 193 taxi companies in Shenyang at present, with a total of 170,000 in operation. As for the brand of taxies here in Shenyang, there are Jetta, Santana, Zhonghua, and the like. Except those air-conditioned taxies, the usual price for a taxi is CNY7 for the first three kilometers. An additional charge of CNY1 for every 600 meters (about 656.2 yards) is charged for both air conditioned and non-air conditioned taxies.

Shenyang is known for its seasonal extremes of weather. Located close to North Korea and on the far north-eastern side of China, Shenyang enjoys sub-humid continental climate under the influence of monsoons.

 

With four distinct seasons, it has an average annual temperature of 8.15ºC. It is hottest in June and coldest in January. Shenyang's winter weather remains cold for a long period, from November to March. However, as soon as spring arrives in April, the climate warms up quickly and dramatically.

 

The best time to visit Shenyang stretches from April to October each year. The winter season in Shenyang are absolutely pristine white, with snow engulfing the entire city. The city is hence a popular destination for winter games and festivals. One visiting the city during winters should take down jacket or adequate winter protective gear as chilly winds blow during the season.

 

Spring season is the time when the entire city is covered by fresh colorful blooming flowers. The autumn season also enjoys a pleasant temperature with the sky remaining clear and fresh breeze blowing. Touring in Shenyang in spring and autumn, you only need light clothes (such as jacket, sweater and suit). And it is rather hot in summer, so T-shirt is OK.
